Sorry Anonymous Commenters…

but I am afraid that I had to disable the ability for you to comment anonymously.  The recent bombardment of spam has left me no choice.  Some of it has been harmless advertisements, but some of it has been offensive and I just don’t want to see it anymore.  I am sorry that a few bad apples has ruined it for the rest of you.  I wish there was another way for you to leave comments and ask questions but at this point I just do not know of one.

In other news… I have been working on a new quilt.  If you follow me on Instagram you probably already know that I have been slowly but surly working on this new quilt for the past couple of weeks.  Unfortunately, progress has been slow because the kids and I have been very sick with the flu.  Thankfully, my husband never got sick.  He single handily saved Christmas this year.  I was to sick to drive, shop, or cook so he picked up the slack to make sure the kids and I still had a memorable Christmas.  He truly is an amazing man.        

I think this is going to be my new “go to” quilt for gift giving.  In just over an hour I was able to cut the two jelly rolls it takes to make this quilt.  The blocks came together quickly, and now that I am feeling better, I am hoping to complete the quilt top this week.

No promises though, the kids are home from school for the next two weeks and I am not sure how that is going to cut in to my sewing time.  Feeding them alone can be a full time job so it could go either way.

Finally the tree is up…

…and my new tree skirt is underneath it.  I finished this tree skirt about a week ago and had planned to put up the tree and take my pictures then, but time got away from me.  I am not quite sure where the time went this week, but I think a 4 year old with an ear infection and a middle school student with a desire to be in the school orchestra, might of had something to do with it.

I am really happy with how this quilted tree skirt came out.  I used a layer cake of O’ Tinsel Tree by Robert Kaufman and pieced it together using a combination of HST’s, snowballs, and squares.  The inspiration for this project came from all the tree pants I saw last year via the Happy Zombie Holiday Sew Along. 

The way these blocks came together has inspired me to rework the measurements and simplify the construction making it easier to put these blocks together. So, I have a feeling you will be seeing this quilt from me again sometime soon along with a tutorial.

I quilted it using some straight line quilting mitered out from the center to each of the four corners.  After I was finished quilting it I used a CD to cut the center circle and then I cut it down the center to the outer edge making it into a skirt.  I must admit it was very hard to make that first cut, but what must be down, must be done.  Once the proper cuts were made it was easy to bind this tree skirt but extra care had to be taken when binging the center circle to make sure everything lined up perfectly.

The details:

This tree skirt measures about 42” square with 16 blocks pieced together in a 4 by 4 layout.  For the fabrics I used O’ Tinsel Tree by Robert Kaufman, Kona white, and Kona red for the binding.  The quilting is a basic straight line mitered out from the center to each of the four corners using a white cotton tread.

I am in!!!

I am so excited to be part of another round of the Doll Quilt Swap.  For those of you are not familiar with the Doll Quilt Swap there is a lottery for each round because there are so many who want to participate. 

My quilt has to be at least 9x9" but no bigger than 20x20”.  It can be pieced or appliquéd, quilted by hand or by machine.  I can’t wait to get started.  I already have so many ideas.  Now, I just need to secretly stalk my partner to see what she likes and what see doesn’t like.

Also, I need to make a mosaic so my partner can get to know me better. As you can see I am leaning towards bright and colorful quilts.....
